"I love how reassuring and humble you are. I knew you'd be such a sweet soul!"
―Wendy to Jason, SR: VV Definitive Edition

Wendy Delgado appears as the tritagonist in Sibling Rivalries: Vancouver Vultures.

Description[]

Wendy is an 11-year old (during the events of VV) girl who resides in Vancouver, Canada. She is unsure what she wants to be when she grows up, as she is stuck between wanting to be a vetrinarian, teacher, or actress. One day in summer 2011, she comes across a boy named Jason Parker running down a football field with his ball, and she is impressed with how fast he is at running. She takes a strong liking to him and even attends his team's first football game.

She was pretty nervous to talk to him at first but she finally does while on his way home from the field. She compliments his skills on the field and Jason appreciates her. She invites him out to eat and Jason says yes, so Wendy happily goes with him the other way as Jason's friend Drake Romero asks who is that girl he's with. Jason tells him a fan is taking him out for food, and Drake jokingly tells them "don't have too much fun!", but he is secretely worried about Jason being with this girl.

While eating, Wendy and Jason have a thoughtful conversation about how Jason got into football and how she is jealous of him finding his life goal so early. They instantly fall in love during this conversation, but Wendy getting into Jason's head isn't good because he gets distracted from thinking about her the next time he plays football with his friends. Drake gets furious at Jason and asks what is distracting him, and Jason is worried to tell him it is Wendy. Drake already knows it is Wendy, and he storms off the field away from his friends.

While Jason plays in a game at Countryside Village, his mind immediately turns to being with Wendy on the beach, causing him to lose focus and he gets injured by a rival player. Some of his ribs are broken, and Drake leaves a bruise on his chest from punching him out of anger that he got distracted yet again. The next day, Jason is in the hospital. Wendy enters his room and apologizes for distracting him. She offers to step aside and stay out of his life so he can focus on football. She gives him a tearfelt goodbye and leaves the room; Jason is just as sad as he didn't know if Wendy leaving his life makes him feel any better.

Jason is discharged the next day and meets up with Drake who apologizes for his horrible behavior. Drake is upset that his father had big dreams that were crushed when a lady entered his life, and he doesn't want Jason to suffer the same fate. Drake decides to help Jason succeed at balancing both football and Wendy in his mind, and Jason succeeds. Now Jason no longer gets distracted while on the field, and both him and Wendy are happy that she can continue attending his games after he heals from his broken ribs.

At the Vultures' championship game in Victoria, the team is getting stumped as the other team has a player (Irving Lavoie) that is better than Jason. Wendy suggests that Jason enter the defensive line and tackle Lavoie so the Vultures can get the ball back and win; she especially thinks he should do this as Lavoie was previously insulting Jason and telling him to go back to the United States so Lavoie can be Canada's best youth football player. Jason thanks her for the idea, and succeeds at putting Lavoie out of the game. The ball is returned to the Vultures and Jason helps the team win! Everybody is cheering for him and is so proud of him, especially Wendy. Jason expresses his happiness for figuring out how to balance football and this girl he has grown to love, and they share their first kiss together.

Wendy and Jason remain a couple well into the present day. Right before the Sibling Rivalries series begins, Jason is promoted to team captain, and says Wendy will be very proud to hear this news.

Wendy and Drake currently have one prominent appearance in SR, and that was in the comic "Fightin' Irish". During this comic, the whole world is temporarily halted due to the outbreak of a illness. Jason, Drake, and Wendy are in Jason's room, pretty upset that they cannot play football. Drake says they can try throwing the ball in his room, and as Jason throws the ball to Drake, he ends up breaking his TV. Wendy says she will buy Jason a new TV once it is safe to go back outside.

Trivia[]

  • In a way, Wendy could be seen as an antagonist in the original version of the story. Despite not having any intentional or malicious intents, she distracts Jason from football. However, Jason is also to blame as he does not seem to get help for this, not to mention when Jason blames everything on Wendy, she gets angry and they briefly break up. When they reunite at the end, Jason simply said he was "lying" about Wendy distracting him, and they make up.
    • However, this cannot be said for the Definitive Edition, which portrays her as more human, being sympathetic and remorseful of the pain she didn't realize she was causing Jason. Jason undergoes training to ensure he can balance his love for Wendy and the sport of football, which was a success. Not to mention, DE has a true antagonist working against Jason in the form of Irving Lavoie; Wendy offers Jason advice on how to defeat him.
