First Appearance

Tonya Brooks (formerly Tonya Turner) is one of two tritagonists of Turner's Second Chance. She is the mother of the story's protagonist Christopher Turner, as well as his two little brothers Freddie and Andy. She is also the maternal aunt to Hunter Prince.

Tonya is a depressed woman who was married to David Turner, a drug user and alcoholic. She was frequently abused by him, as were her sons as well. It is speculated that it was David that was the cause of Tonya losing her two legs, leaving her to get around in a wheelchair. They got divorced in January 2016 and David was taken to jail.

The next month, Tonya and her sons moved from Compton to San Francisco, California, after being invited there by her older sister Amanda. The apartment that Tonya and her sons move into is very dirty and untidy. Being upset by their living arrangement, Tonya's eldest son Chris decides to set out and get a job to support his family. He is assisted by Hunter Prince, his cousin and the nephew of Tonya.
