Mexico, officially the United Mexican States (Spanish: Estados Unidos Mexicanos) is a federal republic located in North America. The country is bordered to the north by the United States; to the south and west by the Pacific Ocean; to the southeast by Guatemala, Belize, and the Caribbean Sea; and to the east by the Gulf of Mexico. Covering almost two million square kilometres (over 760,000 sq mi), Mexico is the sixth largest country in the Americas by total area and the 13th largest independent nation in the world. With an estimated population of over 120 million, it is the eleventh most populous country and the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world and the second most populous country in Latin America. Mexico is a federation comprising thirty-one states and a Federal District, its capital and largest city.
Appearances in the GTA Nerd Comic Universe[]
Mexico is mentioned several times in the Sibling Rivalries franchise. Several characters in the series are Hispanic (such as Salvador Rosales and his friends). However, only a handful of characters were actually born in Mexico; several were born in either the United States (such as Tony Gonzales) while a majority of them are born in Canada.
Armando Vasquez, Joel Gonzales, and Jose Gonzales are known to be Mexican-Canadian; their fathers are Hispanic and their mothers are Canadian. As for Estevan Caballero, his place of birth is currently unclear; the comic "Straight Outta Green Bay" mentions that he was born in San Diego, California and then moved to Vancouver. However, based on some dialogue by the Estevan that appears in the rewritten version of Sibling Rivalries: Vancouver Vultures, he was always born and raised in Vancouver. As of this remake changing some of the canon, now Estevan would be one of the Hispanic characters that was born in Canada.
Appearances in the GTA Expanded Universe[]
Mexico is heavily mentioned in the GTA Expanded Universe. It is the origin point of, and a thoroughfare for, a constant stream of narcotics being smuggled into the United States. It is also the ethnic home of a large number of hispanic street gangs including the Varrios Los Aztecas and the Los Santos Vagos. In addition to these street gangs Mexico is also home to a number of drug cartels such as the Madrazo Cartel for which it has become infamous.
