Jefferson High is a teen comedy-drama series featured on Spree. It follows the social and private lives of a group of students at the fictional Jefferson High School in Liberty City as they struggle to cope with the ever changing nature of teenage high school social life. The series follows the group as they are launched through the joys, sorrows, social pressures and parental expectations that underpin the high school experience. They experience the soaring heights of high school romance, the hardships of bullying, the immense pressures of the social arena and everything in between.
The show features a main cast taken from each of the stereotypical high school cliques. It also features the complexities of high school friendships with some of the characters being friends from the start, others being bitter rivals who later become friends and some being friends who become enemies. As the series progresses it shows the differing social expectations placed on the character by his clique and the risks that come with associating with someone outside that social group. Each character was deliberately chosen from a different clique in order to create a true snapshot of high school life.
Ellie is a new student who has just arrived from New Langdon. She transferred to Jefferson High from her old school due to her parent's moving to Liberty City for work. Extremely shy she suffers from poor self-esteem as a result of bullying as a child. Ellie is an attractive girl who is unable to recognize her own worth due to her being rejected as a social outcast by the vast majority of the student body. She has a secret crush on Kenny Morris, the football team's star Quarterback, who doesn't even seem to know she exists. Her full name is Ellen but she has used the nickname "Ellie" since she was a small girl.
Kenneth, who prefers to be called Kenny, is one of the most popular students at Jefferson High and the star Quarterback of the football team. His family has lived in Broker for generations with his father and grandfather having attended Jefferson High in their youth which he believes makes him as "legacy". He is seen to be a genuinely nice guy who is manipulated by his cheeleader girlfriend into doing things that he wouldn't normally do. Unlike the other members of the football team he does not bully other students and instead tries to calm his teammates down when they are getting carried away in their bullying. He is good natured at heart though he does have a slight tendency misunderstand the actions of other people. Kenny is not academically minded and as result is not doing well in his classes to the immense disapproval of his parents. He is Ellie's secret love interest though he is not fully aware of her.
Molly is the captain of the Jefferson High Cheer Squad and Kenny's girlfriend. She is controlling and jealous to the point that she aggressively confronts any girl she feels is hitting on Kenny. Secretly insecure she takes her position very seriously using her authority as a weapon to humiliate anyone who angers her. Molly knows that Ellie has a crush on Kenny and has ruthlessly targeted her as a threat to her "perfect life" going out of her way to make Ellie's life difficult. She is very clique-oriented leading the Cheer Squad as both a sporting and social group which she uses to alienate any female student who displeases her. She is the stereotypical high school "mean girl" who finds her worth in popularity.
Enrique is a troublemaker from a poor family who has earned a reputation as a teenage delinquent. He often skips classes and smokes cigarettes behind the gym. He grew up in East Holland as the son of a waitress mother and a small-time gang member father giving him an introduction to crime at an early age. Enrique is a bully and often physically assaults his fellow students which has prompted numerous bouts of detention. He is not doing well in his classes and has been threatened with expulsion for his wayward ways. He has a very bad home life which sees him physically threatened by his father and emotionally abused by his mother. He is openly flirtatious towards Ellie who he sees as extremely attractive but does not know how to properly treat a girl due to his upbringing. He has a very well concealed good side which has seen him take care of a kitten he found abandoned and near death in an alley. He is the stereotypical high school "bad guy with a soft side".
Angela is the constantly peppy and optimistic head of the Jefferson High Glee Club. She was the first student to greet Ellie on her first day and has taken it upon herself to serve as her guide. Against her own advice she harbours a deep crush on Enrique finding his "bad boy appeal" irresistible due to its stark constrast to her own highly ordered life. However, she has not been able to work up the courage to tell him how she feels instead putting her unrequited love into her songs. She is a highly intelligent young woman dedicated to getting good grades in order to please her demanding parents and to get her into a good college. She genuinely likes Ellie but often unintentionally employs a condescending mother-daughter type relationship when interacting with her in social situations believing her to be naive. Angela is a good natured, friendly and kind hearted girl with an active sense of humour. She is involved in a bitter fued with Molly whom she refers to as "that stuck up bitch."
Jason is a skinny young man with a sullen and gloomy personality. He has happily embraced his exile as a social outcast and refuses to fit in with the "peppy fairytale bulls##t!". He is the leader of the Jefferson High goth clique maintaining a dark attitude and a morbid sense of humour. Jason is the stereotypical high school goth with a pale complexion, a love of dark clothing and chains, a deep interest in the occult and a very bleak outlook on life. He leads a small group of goths who often spend their lunch periods loitering in an abandoned furnace room on campus listening to stereotypical goth music. Jason holds a bitter contempt for almost every student at Jefferson High, apart from his fellow goths of course, who he believes are living in a delusional and illusional state. He has a very dark personality and a keen interest in black magick which he states is frowned upon by society because they fear it. Despite his disregard for most of the student body Jason acknowledges Ellie and tries to recruit her to his clique at every opportunity.
