Cletus Comics was a GTA Nerd Comic Productions series. It centered around a robot named Cletus and his friends, who live in a futuristic world full of robots, in the fictional Circuit Board Island.

CC was GTA Nerd's longest running comic series, surpassing one of GTA Nerd's other series, "M-O, WALL-E, EVE, and Chiquita" which had 66 stories/comics. Since then, it has been dethroned by Sibling Rivalries which surpassed its lifespan and now has 101+ comics.

Description[]

The series was inspired by the movie WALL-E (Cletus even says he and WALL-E are cousins, and Cletus looks just like him). The series is set in the far future, way past 2200 AD where robots are now the dominant species. The robots have since restarted the timeline and now go by AH, meaning "After Humans". Any year that a comic was written in real life, it was set during AH; for example, work on the series began in 2010 AD but the events actually began in 2010 AH.

Since the series began in December 2010 (the exact date is unknown, as GTA Nerd did not date his comics until mid-2012), it has done quite well, with GTA Nerd making comics as quick as he wrote stories for M-O, WALL-E, EVE, and Chiquita. Looking back on them as an adult, however, many of the comics made zero sense with so many bizzare events going on. Not to mention as a child, the plots were poorly executed. There was also a lot of toilet humor in early seasons (weird for a series about robots, isn't it?), leading him to go back and remove many comics that revolted him later on.

In its later years, the series made more sense but then became infamous for ripping off a lot of movies or shows like Ice Age, Phineas and Ferb and The Fairly OddParents. For example, the main antagonist Devil-Bot having his personality shift to that of Dr. Heinz Doofenschmirtz by Season 7, or the reveal of an underground world populated by dinosaurs that was taken from Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. In a way, it can be seen as parody, but GTA Nerd is quite ashamed that as the series went on, comics moreso resembled an average modern Fairly OddParents episode than be a comic with an original idea.

Trivia[]

  • Early comics of the series were not dated, so it is unknown when exactly they were released. It wasn't until the 2012 comic "Robot Rampage!" that every comic was dated.
  • "Jumbo Ship: A Cletus Movie-Comic" (the first comic of 2012 inspired by WALL-E) is the longest comic of the series, and any other GTA Nerd series for that matter, having a perfect 100 pages. As GTA Nerd looks back on the comic in present day however... it's incredibly full of filler.
  • The word "hell" is used in the series (but it is only used as the name of the nether world Devil-Bot rules). The word would later be used as a swear word in Zachary and Sibling Rivalries: Vancouver Vultures - The Definitive Edition.
  • Tasers appear frequently throughout the series, appearing as a small rectangle with plugs at the top that are electrified, and are a substitute to other real-life weapons, as tasers do not harm the robots in the story (except on some occasions as part of the story). Cletus The Movie-Comic 3: Road To Robopolis is the first comic to feature stun guns in addition to the standard tasers seen throughout the series.
  • Unlike Sibling Rivalries, Cletus has not appeared in every comic of the series, as he was absent in a single comic that instead focused on Tetch 60 at school. Thus, there is NO character that has been in every comic of the franchise.
